General Terms and Conditions

Tutoring Sessions

Each session lasts for an hour and will usually take place during term-time. The term dates can be found here. Tuition sessions are also available during the Summer holidays, by prior arrangement. I will discuss this with all parents during the final term and the sessions can be booked individually.

Payment terms

The first 2 sessions are payable 48 hours before the start of each session. This enables the tutor and the student to decide if they are a good match for each other without having to commit to ongoing tuition.

Payment should be made via bank transfer. Parents will be provided with this information after a mutually acceptable timeslot has been agreed.

All payments must be made at least 48 hours prior to the lesson. If payment has not been made by this time, then the lesson will not take place.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel an individual session after it has been scheduled, I always appreciate as much notice as possible. I will endeavour to reschedule the session within the next couple of weeks. However, this may not always be possible.

If a lesson is missed without giving notice, then the lesson will be non-refundable.

I always endeavour to keep the sessions at the time they were booked for. However, sometimes there might be occasions when alternative arrangements need to be made. Under these circumstances I will either rearrange the sessions or provide a refund.

All refunds given will be issued directly to the person who paid originally.

Notice Period

After the initial trial period of two weeks, a fortnight's notice must be given to cancel tuition.

Session Arrival and Departure

Please arrive promptly for the start of every session.

Please collect promptly at the end of every session.

I will not be available until the agreed start time of our session, although you are very welcome to wait on my driveway if you do arrive early.

If you arrive late for a session, then that session will still end at our previously agreed time.

If your child is arriving independently, please ensure that they do not  arrive early as I will not be available to meet them until the agreed start time.

If you intend to allow your child to leave the session independently, please send me an email informing me that this is your intention. If your child will not be collected by a parent at the start of a session, then you must let me know prior to the session.

Feedback

For those students having individual tuition, brief feedback will be given at the end of the session and will be included in the allotted hour.

This feedback will be given to the adult who is collecting the child unless I have been informed otherwise.

Equipment

All equipment such as pens, pencils and paper will be provided during the session.

Much of the work that we do is practical in nature, using games and resources to learn and reinforce new concepts. The work that we do record will be kept in an exercise book which will usually remain securely in the tutoring room between sessions. This book is always available for parents to look at when we discuss feedback at the end of each session.

Homework

If your child is receiving specialist dyslexia tuition, it is important that they have the opportunity to revisit and practise new concepts in between lessons.

The main task will be practising their phonics, and your child may bring home a pack of reading cards that they should practise on a daily basis if possible. This activity is very quick and should only take 5 minutes per day. On occasion, other practical and enjoyable homework or activities will be suggested to reinforce concepts.

Reading cards will be sent home weekly in an individual pouch that I provide.
